Highlights - Wildlife

After having to jettison this category last year due to the pitiful amount of wildlife we saw in New England, I'm pleased to scrape enough photos together to bring it back this time around.  Included here are photographs of rattlesnakes, a couple of insects and of course, an obligatory deer.  Sadly the bear and mountain lion proved elusive on this trip.

From a purely visual point of view, I think the wildlife shots might be the most spectacular - simply setting an extremely wide aperture and getting in close produces powerful results.  The close-up of the insect on bright green leaves is a particular favourite of mine; perhaps its the contrast between the two colours.

The first shot of the rattlesnake is another favourite; the pose works well - better than in the second shot.  With most of these photographs, I made a conscious effort to try and obscure all unnecessary details; the effect is perhaps most pronounced with the blurred foreground in the shot of the deer in Big Bend National Park.
